Short Croquet Team win the Southwick Jamboree!

The Jamboree organised by Southwick is designed to encourage clubs to play Short Croquet. We didn’t enter in 2025 but joined 5 other clubs for the 2026 event. Our team consisted of Peter Adams, Dominic Webb and Hilary Bird.

The first round against Rother Valley was an Alternate Stroke Doubles. Despite playing some dubious shots Peter and Hilary clinched a win.

Dominic had a lie in as he wasn’t required to play until round 2 – another ASD and a singles versus Sussex. Again we won, although Dominic was distinctly unimpressed with his singles performance.

Round 3 was 2 singles against Chichester and Fishbourne. Dominic and Hilary both won – maybe we were just enjoying playing on Southwick’s excellent lawns. Everyone else complained how fast they were. To us they seemed quite slow compared to GGCC’s parched courts!

Undoubtedly the pièce de résistance was the final round, an ASD speed doubles against Littlehampton . Dominic and Peter took the speed aspect very seriously. 🤣. So seriously they didn’t read the rules properly. Had they done so they’d have won having made 7 points, instead they made 14, within the allotted 20 minutes playing time (Hilary had to set the timer every time they started to play and turned it off each time their turn finished. ) What a giggle….

As the only team winning all 6 games we were crowned champions, and received some chocolate as a prize. What a nice day out 😊
