Six of our AC players entered the All England handicap, which was played in two groups of three. The first between Bernie Phillips, Phil Davies and Steve Stuart-Matthews was played on Monday 7th August. Bernie comfortably beat Steve but then had a tremendous tussle against Phil, who took a substantial lead reaching peg and rover. Bernie slowly clawed his way back into the game and pegged out as time was called. In the final match Steve prevailed against Phil.
The other group, comprising Peter Adams, John Gosden and Richard Perkins, played the three games on separate days around a week later. John and Peter had a very close low-scoring game, which John won by two. Richard won the other two games.
