02/10/11 Triumph in the Longman Club Team Cup 2011 for G&G. Saturday saw the team of Mark Godfrey (captain), Arthur Lindley, Mike Thompson and Stephen Stuart-Matthews defeat Ealing in the semi-final at Surbiton. This was the second time the club had reached the final and on Sunday the same team met Nottingham. At lunchtime Guildford & Godalming were 2-1 down but tension rose as the teams came level at 3-3 later in the afternoon with just one game to complete. It was a nail-biting time as scores in this last game were level as time was called. All eyes were on the players, the captain telephoned a running commentary back to the club as in the closing moments Mike Thompson clinched matters winning the game on the ‘golden hoop’. Congratulations to the team on winning our first national competition and also to Andrew Fewster, Robert Bateson and Ian Fugeman who played in the earlier rounds which enabled the club to reach the semi-finals.
25/09/11 End of season GC competition 20 members participated, playing as many games as possible and there was fierce but friendly competition throughout the day, spiced by the mystery of the formula the manager was applying to determine the outcome. Andrea Huxley was the clear winner whilst Barry Gould won the prize for the most games played. Congratulations to Andrea and thanks to Mark Godfrey who devised and managed the competition.
20/09/11 AC All England Final – Andrew Fewster reports that it was a very enjoyable tournament despite some awful weather at times. He won some and lost some and comments that he had some close games that could have gone either way. Handicaps ranged from 0 to 20, and the youngest competitor (the winner) was a 14-year-old on a handicap of 14.
11/09/11 Chapman Challenge Cup AC Handicap Open Ian Fugeman retained the trophy at this weekend’s Intermediate/High Bisquers’ tournament. Following the ‘all play all format’ there was a tie between Ian and Eileen Gallagher resulting in in a final play-off between them. The result for Ian was +3 on time.
06/09/11 SECF GC Handicap League v Woking. G&G won the match in strong winds and torrential rain. Match result G&G 6: Woking 3.
05/09/11 AC All-England Area Finals Stephen Stuart-Matthews and Andrew Fewster played in the area finals at Surbiton. Andrew came 2nd, winning 4 out of his 5 games. Congratulations to Andrew on reaching the final which will be played at Sidmouth on 17th and 18th September.
02/09/11 SECF AC U League v Surbiton A disappointing result in our third match losing at home to Surbiton. Match result G&G 3: Surbiton 5.
25/08/11 Longman Cup v Sussex County Congratulations to our team on winning their quarter-final away against Sussex County at Southwick. This takes us through to the semi-finals for the second year running. The semi-finals and finals will be played at Surbiton on 1 and 2 October.
25/08/11 David & Joan’ West’s Diamond Wedding Anniversary – A surprise ‘cake and champagne’ tea was laid on to celebrate.

17/08/11 Mid-Surrey Federation of Townswomen’s Guilds G&G hosted this annual tournament. 18 teams played 78 matches. Team ‘Jack Jones’ aka Barbara won.

25/07/11 AC B-Level Advanced Open Weekend Tournament – Won by David Marsh who was presented with the Frank Rendall Trophy by Tony Mrozinski,
18/07/11 Hamptworth B-Level Handicap GC Tournament Congratulations to Mike Huxley who won.
27/06/11 AC Advanced Open Weekend Tournament was won by Chris Farthing and so the Godalming & Guildford Crown will grace his trophy cupboard for a further year
15/06/11 Croquet by Candlelight – 40 members and guests enjoyed a buffet by the lawns and as the full moon rose played croquet by moonlight well into the night.
25/05/11 SECF GC Handicap League v Preston Manor– G&G beat Preston Manor 8 games to 1 and by 62 hoops to 34 in a home match.
22/05/11 SECF AC Team Doubles Our team, comprising Mark Godfrey, Mike Huxley, Arthur Lindley, Stephen Stuart-Matthews and Alan Brown, successfully competed at the tournament held at Southwick. It is good to see the trophy back at our Club for the third time.
